** The Quiet American by Graham Greene (1992, 1955)

Some consider this to be the best book on Vietnam (though I think The Things They Carried is).  It’s highly political and centers on the French vs. American attitude and involvement with the conflict in Vietnam.  It’s a great movie too.  (fiction)
