Hester by Laurie Lico Albanese (2022)


This book was published just a month ago, so I’ll be interested to see additional reviews. I liked it, but I’m also a big fan of historical fiction. I forgot to mention in my review that one of my favorite aspects was the attention to detail of the early 19th c setting in Salem: the storefronts and window displays; the wharf with all its smells, stalls, and people from all walks of life; the colorful fabrics; the medicines and herbs at the apothecary; the capes, hats, and dresses of stylish women; and also the bartering and trading of the poor trying to get by in a society that overlooks them.
