Solito by Javier Zamora (2022)

This book is a journey—in so many ways. It’s an immigration journey, a journey of the mind and how it can overcome physical setbacks, it’s a reading journey in its 400 pages, and it’s a language journey: poetic images (“I’ve never seen coffee plants, or bushes—trees? I don’t know what to call them. The leaves look fake, like plastic, like someone woke up early and stapled them on the long drooping branches” p 48) and English infused with Spanish and also Salvadoran dialect. I found myself referencing Google maps to track their route and Google translate to understand many passages. But it’s s journey so well worth the effort. My review on Insta:
